- Familiarize students with the purpose of statistics, that in a broad sense is the collection, compilation, analysis and interpretation of data.
- Introduce the concept of descriptive statistics, which is the understandable and concise representation of the information contained in data.
- Introduce a set of basic concepts of probability theory, key foundation ofstatistical inference and tool for understanding the world surrounding us.
- Introduce the concepts of random variables and probability distributions, which are models used to describe real populations.
- Demonstrate the use of Statistics in the Social Sciences, whose objectives are the description and understanding of relationships between different characteristics of a population, provide support for decision making and therefore, cope with change.
