  1. Familiarize students with the purpose of statistics, that in a broad sense is the collection, compilation, analysis and interpretation of data.
  2. Introduce the concept of descriptive statistics, which is the understandable and concise representation of the information contained in data.
  3. Introduce a set of basic concepts of probability theory, key foundation ofstatistical inference and tool for understanding the world surrounding us.
  4. Introduce the concepts of random variables and probability distributions, which are models used to describe real populations.
  5. Demonstrate the use of Statistics in the Social Sciences, whose objectives are the description and understanding of relationships between different characteristics of a population, provide support for decision making and therefore, cope with change.
